Kathy Erskine's Spanking-New Novel: Quaking
Uh, oh -- did I say "spanking"? This is a young adult novel with a focus on Quakers, so perhaps I should stick with "brand-new" novel. The release date is auspiciously set for the summer solstice: June 21st. (Okay, so now we're pulling Druids into this discussion.)
Here's what Booklist has to say about Quaking:
"...[T]his is a compelling story, which enfolds the political issues into a deeper focus on the characters' personal stories. Idealistic teens will be interested in Matt's growing acceptance of her new family, of Quaker values, and of her need to take action, rather than simply observe." Kathy, apparently, grew up in a family of nomads: Holland, Israel, South Africa, Scotland (where she attended the Scottish version of Hogwarts), Newfoundland... Check out the bio on her website:

Can't wait to read Kathy's book!
Thanks, all! I had a book signing at my favorite local coffee shop which was GREAT. Who says you have to stick with book stores, especially if your local big box's CRM is new/confused/stressed, and your local indie requires you to take out expensive ads? Everyone seemed to have a blast at the coffee shop, including me--and I sold 27 books. Next week, party at my sister's to catch DC area friends, teachers, etc. September, party in MD. October, hopefully a book signing at B&N in northern VA. Party on!
A book-signing at a coffee shop sounds like a great idea to me. I wonder if Mudhouse or Cville Coffee have hosted readings and/or signings.
So..let me get this straight:
The book has nothing to do w/"spanking"; it's about the Amish People...Quakers?
nevermind!
j/k!
